Miramare Castle

Location: Castle Miramare is located northwest of Triest in Italy.

Built in: 1856 - 1860

History
The castle was built as a summer residence for Maximilian von Habsburg and his wife Charlotte of Belgium. The splendid white castle is situated in a large park with exotic plants, and a magnificent view on the sea. Maximilian was killed in 1867, 7 years after the construction was finished, so he didn't have to opportunity to enjoy it very long.

Charlotte remained at Miramare for a few years, but ultimately decided to head back to her homeland Belgium.
